PRAYERFUL SOLIDARITY WITH THE ROOT STOCK
‘Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.’ Psalm122.6
‘And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.
Romans 11.17 – 18 NKJ
The
Emmaus Prayer Plan is a daily reminder of our spiritual inheritance. This becomes ever more significant as the time of the Gentiles comes closer to its end. It is for us to pray not only for the peace of Jerusalem but also for the time when the branches that were broken off be grafted back on – that is, to pray for the restoration of the people of Israel when they repent and acknowledge their Messiah. As we see the connections each day between the Messiah concealed in the Tanach and revealed in the
Brit Hadashah, we shall be blessed by God to pray according to His word. The Messiah is on every page of scripture. It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. (Proverbs 25.2) Well, we are a ‘ royal priesthood’ (1 Peter 2.9); ‘He has made us kings and priests to His God and Father’ (Revelation 1.6). It is our honour to search out the matters that God has concealed. My prayer is that the
Emmaus Prayer Plan will assist us in that search.
